Mr. Wordplay

It has been a while since I have posted music in my blog so I figured that I'm going to do this right, and what better way to do that than sharing with you the music of a true musical genius. Since his debut in 2003, i have been a fan of his artistry and his ability to incorporate wonderful lyrics and slick guitar-playing in most of his songs. He is one of the few artists who are as good in live performances as in recording studio, sometimes even better. I only wish I could be as good as him...

mga parekoy, musikero sundays is proud to present an artist who is on a league of his own. give it up for mr. wordplay himself, Jason Mraz.

You and I both

Was it you who spoke the words that things would happen but not to me
Oh things are gonna happen naturally
Oh taking your advice I'm looking on the bright side
And balancing the whole thing
But often times those words get tangled up in lines
And the bright lights turn to night
Until the dawn it brings
Another day to sing about the magic that was you and me

Cause you and I both loved
What you and I spoke of
And others just read of
Others only read of the love, the love that I love.

See I'm all about them words
Over numbers, unencumbered numbered words
Hundreds of pages, pages, pages forwards
More words then I had ever heard and I feel so alive

You and I, you and I
Not so little you and I anymore
And with this silence brings a moral story
More importantly evolving is the glory of a boy

Cause you and I both loved
What you and I spoke of
And others just dream of
And if you could see me now
Well I'm almost finally out of
I'm finally out of
Finally deedeedeedee
Well I'm almost finally, finally
Well I'm free, oh, I'm free

And it's okay if you have go away
Oh just remember the telephone works both ways
And if I never ever hear them ring
If nothing else I'll think the bells inside
Have finally found you someone else and that's okay
Cause I'll remember everything you sang

Cause you and I both loved what you and I spoke of
and others just read of and if you could see now
well I'm almost finally out of.
I'm finally out of, finally, deedeeededede
well I'm almost finally, finally, finally out of words.

Hanep Pinoy

i have never doubted the amount of talent the Filipino has... may it be singing, acting, or dancing, walang makapag-sasabing hindi natin kayang makipag-sabayan sa mga ibang lahi kaya nga proud na proud ako sa mga achievements ng mga kababayan natin both here and abroad. heto ang ilan sa mga nag-iwan ng marka sa international entertainment scene...

Lea Salonga - One of the first Filipinos who have tasted international fame in the entertainment field, Lea has become an icon and a testament to the fact that talent, beauty, brains, discipline, and a little bit of luck will bring you places, regardless of race and ethnicity. She first appeared on local shows and productions before bagging the biggest role of her career, Kim of Miss Saigon. After her stint on Miss Saigon, and winning a Tony award for her performance, she have recorded albums and went on to star on high profile broadway musicals like Cinderella and Les Miserables. Currently, she is working on a film and preparing for another concert.. Looks like Lea isn't in a hurry to retire just yet, unlike our other performing superstar, Lisa Macuja.

Lisa Macuja - Have single-handedly brought grace and shine back on the once dying art of Ballet in the Philippines. Being gifted with golden feet and graceful moves, Lisa proved that Filipinos can tiptoe their way to international stage. She was invited to perform in different countries but returned to her roots to teach ballet. She is currently happily married with kids...

Charice - Unlike Lisa Macuja, Charice Pempengco or simply Charice have just started her way up on the international ladder of fame. From being a runner-up on a local channel singing competition, Charice was noticed, when a fan posted her performance on youtube, by no less than ellen de generes. She was invited to the ellen show to perform and gave a performance to which ellen would only describe as "brilliant." More people got interested with Charice like David Foster and the Queen of all media herself, Oprah. After series of guestings, Charice is ready to dominate the international recording scene with her first international album. Recently, her single, "Pyramid" reached number 1 on the billboard dance charts and her self-titled album debuted on number 8 on bilboard 200, selling more than 43,000 copies. Looks like there's no way but up for this newcomer, just like this other relatively newcomer, rocker Arnel Pineda.

Arnel Pineda - this gritty rocker started his "Journey" as a frontman of a local band. After years of struggling with the band, our now famous rocker got lucky when a fan recorded his performance during a concert and posted it on youtube. Many were impressed with his vocals and luckily, one of them was the guitarist of the band Journey who was at the moment looking for a possible frontman for the band. After what seemed like a cinderella-ish moment for Arnel, he recorded the vocals for the comeback album of Journey and prepared for their comeback tour as well. The album went platinum and the concert tour became one of that year's top earning tours in US. Currently, Arnel is preparing for his second album with Journey and preparing for another concert tour with the band. From living on the streets to international stardom, not bad huh?

Nicole Scherzinger and Apl d Ap- both nicole and apl became famous when they joined their respective groups, Pussycat Dolls and Black Eyed Peas. Nicole is a half filipina who exploded in US when Pussycat Doll's first album sold 2 million copies and had a string of hits with the group. Apl or Allan Pineda in real life became famous after his group released their third album Elephunk, which became their breakout record. after elephunk, string of hits and more internationally successful albums came. Nicole is currently the winner of dancing with the stars and is rumored to be out of Pussycat Dolls while Apl is still enjoying his 'Peas success and is arguably the most successful Filipino in the entertainment field in US(3 chart-topping albums, multipple grammy recognitions, multi-million grossing concerts, and a string of chart-topping singles)

haha. Ayos ka jollibee, pa-burger ka naman jan.

panakip butas...

Kahapon, nakita ko siyang naglalakad...
malungkot, nagiisa,
walang kasabay sa daang tinatahak.
Lumapit ako at nagtanong, "may problema?"
Bigla siyang ngumiti, sabay sabi ng
"masama lang ang araw ko."

Kanina, muli kaming nagtagpo,

nightcrawler in jail

bago pa kayo mag-isip ng kung anu-ano diyan, uunahan ko na kayo. hindi ako nagnakaw, pumatay, o nang-rape ng sinuman, hokey? sa maniwala kayo o sa hindi, kusa akong sumuko.. este pumasok ng kulangan. it wasn't easy for me at first, nagdadalawang isip pa nga ako kung tutuloy ako pero pikit-mata akong pumasok sa loob dahil na rin sa hiya ko sa aking uncle na ilang linggo kong kinulit para makasama sa kanyang volunteer work doon. i had to check the place out para malaman kung peaceful at safe ba na magsagawa ng "encounter" doon ang aming org. pagpasok namin ng kulungan, we had to surrender our valuables including our phones and cameras(meaning, no pics). naku, strike 1. kinabahan ako bigla, nagdalawang-isip tuloy akong iwan ang sasakyan. but we had to keep on moving so i shook off all my fears and went on. pagpasok namin sa hall, may mga naghihintay na sa aming mga tao. strike 2. hindi lang sila basta nakatingin kundi nakatitig talaga. lalo tuloy tumagaktak ang pawis ko at nagmukha nang black ang kanina'y gray na damit ko. i've never been so uncomfortable in my life, dahil sa pinaghalong init, kaba, and most especially because i am in an unfamiliar territory. i am pretty sure that i was about to leave when my uncle gave me a glance... a glance that for me meant an assurance of safety. and so i decided to force it through a bit more. the program began with a prayer and i was surprised with how cooperative they were and how much they were into what we have to offer them. then we went on and watched a film called "fireproof."

ok, segue muna ako dun sa film. sobra kasi akong nabanas dun sa asawa nung fireman. it was suppose to be an inspiring film but hell, i wanted them to
break up. yung story kasi ay tungkol sa mag-asawang dumadaan sa pagsubok sa kanilang pagsasama, kaso yung babae ay nakikipag-flirt dun sa duktor during the process. haay... needless to say, nagkabalikan yung dalawa sa huli. the story is about rejection, acceptance, and finding a way rebuild relationships...

after the film, i noticed how deeply affected the inmates were and that most of them were crying or at the very least, teary-eyed. then it all dawned on me why. Rejection, Acceptance, and Starting Over... the three things that were either denied from them or they have been experiencing since their capture.. They have been through a lot outside but it never occurred to me how much more difficult it was for them behind prison bars. in an instant,
it's as if i was beginning to feel what they were feeling. I mean, if we think about it, we were never really different from them. all of us are prisoners of our own insecurities, fantasies, of our own wrong doings.. and if there is one thing that makes them a lot luckier than us, it would be the fact that they have a chance to start things over, something that is commonly deprived even to the kindest individual. After watching the film, my uncle gave a short lecture on how we should live our lives and giving importance to things that really matter. it was like seeing lives being changed in an instant. they were very appreciative and when we were about to leave, each one of them approached us and gave thanks for giving time to be with them, it wasn't really a big deal but to some it meant the world to them. i guess it wasn't really the film, or the lecture, but i believe it was more for believing in their capacity to change and instilling in them the fact that their is life after all these... we left the jail with smiles on our faces and "kurot" in our hearts.

sa sabado, babalik kami doon to give more help to these people who have been forgotten by most of our fellow kababayans. Hindi ko sinasabing tama ang lahat ng naging desisyon nila sa buhay but i believe that everyone is entitled to a second chance, and another after that, and another after that... who are we to deny a person of a chance to redeem himself, right? and besides, kailangan na rin ng kotse ng cleaning, they give the best
free carwash in town! haha. ganun pala dun, free ang carwash pag nagustuhan ka nila :P

bakit nakakatawa ang eleksyon...

kumusta mga parekoy? i hope lahat tayo ay naka-boto... as we all know by now, Noynoy is the "president in waiting" as his lead against his closest competitor, Joseph Estrada, is a Big 5 million votes. it is a victory of sorts, even if i voted for green(which is in a distant 4th place), especially when considering the fact that his closest competitor is Joseph Estrada(the horror). I'd rather have Noynoy as the president than have a "joke" seated at the palace for the next six years... and thank God that the other orange didn't win as well.

Medyo nahulaan ko na rin, even before the election proper, that yellow would win the elections. even so, i voted for green as it would have felt wrong voting for someone just because he is the popular candidate or he is the sure "winner." i have voted for the sole purpose of believing in the change that this certain candidate could bring, and as i look at this ink on my finger, it is not defeat that i see, but rater a victory on raising my voice as to who i believe would be the best leader and hope that all my fellow Filipinos have done, with dignity, the same thing. i applaude Gibo for giving a good fight and for not engaging in dirty tactics during the campaign. i have a feeling that we'll see him in the next elections. but for now, congrats to President Benigno Aquino III. by the way, Jejomar Binay currently leads the vice-presidential race. i voted for him too...

parang ube jam lang ah. hehe.
______________________________

On a different note, the elections brought in as many laughs as it did with controversies. what i enjoyed the most are the parodies made with the campaign ads on tv. i laughed so hard when i watched this spoof of villar's campaign ad with his senatoriables...

haha... nakakatawa talaga ang eleksyon! by the way, watch out for gwen pimentel's part.. it's f*ckin' genius. wahaha.

kulokoy3: huy, panuorin niyo to o. astig.

apparently, body-builders and single ladies don't go together. ang sagwang tignan! nyahaha. mukha silang ewan!
__________________________
